Data Privacy Day 2014

DPD_ImageSince 2008, people and organizations around the world have joined together on January 28th to celebrate Data Privacy Day. Led by the National Cyber Security Alliance, it is an effort to empower and educate people to protect their privacy, control their digital footprint, and make the protection of privacy and data a greater priority in their lives.

As a proud Data Privacy Day Champion, iKeepSafe offers several resources to help teachers, parents, students, and businesses understand best practices around privacy in the digital space. Just a few include:

Data Privacy and Schools: Outlining the Conversation: This whitepaper frames the questions that education community stakeholders might consider before taking advantage of what are sometimes sorely needed data management solutions. It is a launching pad for dialogue, with the ultimate aim of easing the development of successful and compliant partnerships with third-party technology partners.

General Overview and Positioning Paper: Concerns about data security are growing as the information collected by website operators is increasingly catching the attention of thieves and hackers. This white paper begins a dialogue about security protections for data collected by educational institutions.

BEaPRO™ Parent App: It is important to periodically stop and reflect on privacy over the past year, decide what aspects of our life we want to keep private, and identify areas where we may want to increase our privacy. This interactive app will make your job easier and help improve your entire household.

iKeepSafe’s Blog (Privacy): Learn pertinent information from iKeepSafe experts and guest bloggers on everything from identity theft to LinkedIn to safeguarding your privacy while using apps.

Understanding what personal information is safe to share online—and what is not—is a critical aspect of modern life.  And although Data Privacy is celebrated just one day of the year, it can be a catalyst for an entire year of improved practices. Let us know in the comments what you are doing to celebrate Data Privacy Day and to make 2014 the best year yet.
