Site Teaches the Language of Text Messaging
TextEd.ca a GR8 Resource for Parents and Teachers
If your children are prolific producers of text messages, you’ve probably been thrown off at times by the many acronyms that constitute the "language" of texting. Fortunately, there are some skilled translators out there to help you communicate with your children.
TextEd.ca is one of those translators. According to its site, TextEd was designed "to help educate youth about how to use technology respectfully and to know what to do when someone crosses the line." Among other things, the site provides a unique "Acronictionary" that defines over 700 texting acronyms.
Here are a few examples from the site:
- BESTF – Bestest friend
- TAFN – That’s all for now
- B4N – Bye for now
- URTM – You are the man
- GF – Girl friend
- E2EG – Ear to ear grin
- YKWYCD - You know what you can do
- MORF - Male or female?
- QT – Cutie
- TA – Thanks a lot
- RYS – Are you single?
TextEd also provides lesson plans for teachers to educate students about safe texting practices.
